Dear Members and Friends of the Show Industry
Happy New Year to all.... Although it is difficult for me to say ‘happy’ New Year with so much devastation around the country, and it’s only mid-February.
The bushfires have impacted many of our Members over the Christmas and New Year period; where traditional Christmas Carnival would bring the excitement to town; local community and tourists have had extreme weather and conditions to contend with.
Australian’s have done what Australian’s do best; pulling together through difficult and trying circumstances to take care of their mates, their neighbours, their friends and supported each other.
I am proud to report that our Members are no exception, supporting people and communities wherever possible.
Fund raising efforts and donations where flowing. One example of so many comes to mind with Karren Blades going to extraordinary lengths to raise money, collect blankets and goods, load up the vehicles and drive two trucks to Batemans Bay to support the people in the town.
The impact to the Australian people, businesses, wildlife, tourism and agricultural, including the Show movement will be felt for some time, maybe even years.
The ever-changing laws of land are keeping the office very busy.
The task to comply with ROC, Australian Electoral Commission and WorkSafe to name a few, is a constant daily challenge. With Members support and patience we will get there!
The 2020 Think Tank was a great success thanks to the tireless efforts of the SGA office and volunteers. There is simply too many people to name, as each and every year more hands are raised to volunteer their time and help produce this annual event.
This event would not be the success it is without you all! A very big thank you! Your support is greatly appreciated.
Our Annual General Meeting of Members will be held on 1st April 2020. This is no joke (sorry! I couldn’t resist) with very important matters to discuss.
The Meeting will commence at 6.00pm this year and held at the same venue as previous years, Dooley’s Catholic Club at Lidcombe.
In closing, I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous 2020.
George Pink President
