   Dear Members, Friends and Readers,
Spring is finally here and Victoria comes alive; especially here in Melbourne with the start of the major event calendar - AFL football finals, the Royal Melbourne Show, Melbourne Fringe Festival, Melbourne Fashion week and the Spring racing carnival just around the corner.
The Victorian Show run has commenced for another year, and it is a very busy time for the Victorian Showmen’s Guild and our Members.
At the VAS Ltd Convention in Camperdown in June, the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria announced their proposed date changes for the Melbourne Show, to commence in 2021.
These changes will see the Royal Melbourne Show start on Thursday 23rd September and conclude on Sunday 3rd October 2021; falling in the school holiday period and aiming to attract bigger crowds.
A number of the country Shows raised concerns about the impact the date change will have on their Show, and the office has received a number of calls and emails seeking reassurances that the Showmen will continue to support them.
Thankfully our Members can continue to support these country Shows,
as the date changes should not directly affect those Members who participate at Horsham, Berrigan, Nathalia, Murtoa, Seymour, Swan Hill, Yarrawonga,
St. Arnaud, Goroke, Kerang, Shepparton, Wangaratta, Nhill and Minyip.
Although I have just received confirmation from VAS Ltd that the Minyip Show has formally disband and the Show will not be held in 2019.
The Victorian Showmen’s Guild 2019 elections are underway for the new Committee of Management.
Nominations close for the Committee of Management 2019 on Friday 20th September 2019 at 12 noon.
Please consider your nominations and send your form into the Australian Electoral Commission should you wish to nominate (see page 3).
The election results will be announced at our Annual General Meeting of Members, to be held on Thursday 28th November 2019.
We are currently reviewing the venue for the 2019 Annual General Meeting of Members, which we are hoping to announce any change at the General Meeting on Members, to be held in Shepparton on Thursday 10th October 2019 from 1.00pm.
The General meeting will be held in the meeting room under the Grandstand at the Shepparton Showground and we encourage all Members to attend. See you there!
Wishing you all the very best for the Victorian Show run. Let’s hope for sunshine and good crowds!
Safe travels,
Justine Sinclair Editor
