Dear Members, friends and readers,
It’s great to be back!
I am happy to report that the Royal Easter Show was a great success for members! Not only was it great to be back to work, at a Royal, but great to see smiling faces and crowds out and about, safely and with freedoms we have not experienced in a long time.
The country shows have also been well supported, with good attendance and people excited to support their local Shows once again.
Chant’s new Ferris Wheel has been a great feature at Hawksbury Bathurst Orange and Dubbo proving to be a big drawcard.
We are in Emerald now and waiting to hear the news on a proposed snap lockdown for Victoria set to be announcement this morning. Let us hope this is a short-term lockdown for a long-term gain.
On 21st May 2021, the Minister for Agriculture, Drought and Emergency Management the Hon. David Littleproud announced $4.3 million to support Showmen and women. This rent relief package will support travelling Showmen and women continue to provide amusements and services to agricultural shows across Australia.
We welcome this announcement and look forward to working with the Department of Agriculture on the operational details, with further announcements in the coming weeks.
NHVR have also recently advised that the National Notice is with the NHVR’s Policy area who have completed a draft policy and notice, which is great news. We understand that consultation with the Guild and other key stakeholders will commence soon.
In the meantime, the NHVR Access Team will continue to support Guild members to obtain permits and access in a timely manner and maintain the single point
of contact and continue to have an Access Facilitator dedicated to managing the processing and permitting of applications.
Victorian vehicle concessions applied by VicRoads is due to expire on 30th June 2021. This discount has significantly supported many Victorian members over the past 4 months. We are now advocating for our members to make this a permanent category for special purpose amusement vehicles in the future.
And lastly, we are excited to celebrate this 500th edition of the Outdoor Showman magazine.
The Outdoor Showman is an important historical publication and an integral part of our history. The magazine aims to advance the interests and communication with Showmen and women and kindred industry practitioners throughout Australia and internationally. Thank you to the many supporters, subscribers, contributors and advertisers of our magazine! It’s through your amazing support that we are able to continue publishing the Outdoor Showman. Happy 500!
Wishing you all safe travels and a successful lower, north and territory run!
