THE OUTDOOR SHOWMAN 1
Hello to all our members, subscribers and industry friends,
Happy New Year!
As I’m writing this report, we’ve bump out of the Royal Canberra Show are arrived in Goulburn for the Show this weekend; then preparing to travel to Melbourne for the Moomba festival.
This year the festival will run over 5 days, over the Labour Day long weekend, from Thursday 9th to Monday 13th March 2023. Hopefully, the additional festival day is a great success and draws plenty of people into the City of Melbourne.
So far most of the Ag Shows in February have been solid, capped off with a fantastic Royal Canberra Show. Good crowds, great weather, and plenty of happy show-goers.
Next stop after Moomba is the Royal Easter Show.
From all reports the summer carnival season was good for most. We were all fortunate with good weather, allowing most carnivals in coastal towns and regional areas to trade for the duration of the Christmas and summer period without too much interruption.
Public liability insurance is still a key concern for Showmen. Whilst we can obtain insurance by complying with lists of requirements and increased documentation, we are certainly paying the price for premiums.
Thankfully, the SASW – Showground rental relief program continues to support Showmen, women and Show businesses until the 30th of June 2023. I’d like
to thank all the Ag Show Societies, delegates and Showmen completing the SASW forms and paperwork. It takes great teamwork and cooperation from all concerned, which is great and much appreciated.
We are still working towards a National Notice with the NHVR. This is progressing along and will be worth to wait. It’s been a big process as it impacts many road owners; from local, state and federal. In the meantime, Showmen must ensure permits are in place to move their special purpose amusement vehicles where necessary. The NHVR Hypercare team have been an amazing support, working with Showmen to ensure your routes are planned out and permits obtained for your travels.
In closing, I wish you all a safe and prosperous 2023!
Let’s work together to continue support our Ag Shows, creating a great experience with lasting memories for Show-goers across Victoria and Australia.
Safe travels.
