PAVILION
Warragul Show is well known for the wonderful displays on Show in the Exhibition Hall which is part of the Showgrounds complex.
The hall is locally known as the ‘chook shed’ after the poultry exhibits were on display in the hall for the Show for many years. The building was owned by the Show society and gifted to the then Warragul Shire.
The exhibition section offers a diverse spread of classes catering for all age groups from students to aged care facilities and people with special needs.
Many classes are included in the schedule to give aged care residents an opportunity to submit their knitted and crocheted items for judging. The section also includes classes for coat hangers, Christmas decorations, handmade cards, jewellery, beadwork and art work.
Scrapbooking, handmade cards and parchment craft classes continue to be well supported sections of the Show, featuring 45 classes for people to enter, Showing the increasing trend of this craft in the community.
The Exhibition Hall has become a Showcase of quality entries from across the district, with a student exhibitors growing in numbers each year.
One of the main features each year is the photographic section.
The plain and fancy needlework classes are always popular and provide a great display of skill and work.
As at all strong regional Shows, cookery and preserves are special sections with many visitors leaving with a firm commitment to enter their culinary efforts next year.
CARNIVAL
The Show rides and carnival stalls have always been a popular attraction for the young and the young at heart.
Before the Showgrounds were remodelled the Showman’s Guild members lined up their rides on the park boundary overlooking the route most children took to school. It was a dead set winner as far as advertising went and the perfect ‘ride boulevard’ under the canopy of aging elm trees.
But with progress comes change and the new site at the opposite end of the Showgrounds has proved a winner with both young people and young families. The mixture of rides has been great for Show patrons.
As well as rides there are the always popular side Show alley type games and the challenging high slides.
Trades sites, food vans and Showbag vendors complete the Show day atmosphere.
The Showman’s Guild has been a long- time supporter of the Warragul Show with some members taking part across several generations.
There also is a wide range of free activities for those mingling around the grounds including dancing displays and a dog high jump.
