Resolutions such as access to midwifery services, dental care, and speech therapy; patient transport subsidy, hazard reduction practices and water management; and education around diseases are contributed. And they inform where the QCWA concentrates its collective influence, lobbying governments, communities, and special interest groups, for increased awareness, improvement and ultimately change.
In 2013 the QCWA launched the Country Kitchens program; a health promotion program supporting communities across the state to adopt healthier lifestyle behaviours with a particular focus on rural, regional, and remote locations.
It is a partnership between the QCWA and the Queensland Government, funded through Health and Wellbeing Queensland.
Having celebrated the Association’s centenary last August, the immediate focus is now on four key areas: overcoming isolation, healthy Queensland women, a voice for women, and an area for specific local needs.
“QCWA continues to create
opportunities for women to connect, learn, share ideas and skills and form friendships,” said Sheila Campbell, State President.
The connection and sense of belonging, the friendships, and
the working together for common good, still resonate with women now. Distances are still great but the bonds through QCWA are resilient.
