Dear Members, fellow Showmen,
industry friends and readers,
As we approach the close of another year, it is with immense
gratitude and pride that I take this opportunity to reflect on
the year and our accomplishments, and extend my heartfelt
thanks to each and every one of you – our valued members,
subscribers, industry friends, and supporters
2024 has been a year of challenges and triumphs, as we have
navigated the ups and downs of our industry with resilience and dedication.
From the exhilarating return of large-scale Shows and events to the smaller,
but equally significant Agricultural Shows that keep the spirit of showmanship
alive, we have seen a revitalisation of our sector in ways that are both inspiring
and promising for the future.
From most reports, showmen have been busy; the Victorian Show run has
been successfully completed for another year and we now prepare for festive
events and the summer carnival season across Victoria and Australia.
The Victorian Showmen’s Annual General Meeting of Members was held last
Tuesday, 3rd of December and I am delighted to be elected your President once
again, along with Secretary Eileen McClure, Treasurer Terry Moon, and Trustee
Marjorie Chant. I would also like to congratulate the newly elected office bearers
and co-opted delegates. I look forward to us all working together in the New Year.
A warm welcome our 11 new Guild members; Benjamin Allan-Reardon,
Samantha Dean, Charlie Gill, Krystal Greenhalgh, Ash Johnson, Leyton Osborne
Little, Taonga Quay Little – Thatcher (Beau), Allan Smith (Red), Phillip Zacchini
Snr., Melinda Young and Braeden Webster. Congratulations to you all,
and a very warm welcome to the Victorian Showmen’s Guild.
Members Christine Woodall and Raelene Davis were recognised as 50 Year
Members. Congratulations to you both, and a special thank you for their
longstanding support of the Victorian Showmen’s Guild.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our Executive Committee for their
diligence and commitment and acknowledge the tireless efforts of our Guild’s
Delegates whose work behind the scenes often goes unseen, but is always felt.
Your time, energy, and vision are what drive us forward, and for that, I am truly
grateful.
Special mention to our Trustee Marjorie Chant, Secretary Eileen McClure and
Treasurer Terry Moon for their efforts throughout the year and our Executive
Officer, Justine Sinclair.
While 2024 has been a year of great progress, there is much more to be done.
As we look to 2025, we are excited to build on our successes and continue
pushing for greater recognition, support, and opportunities for our members.
Together, we will keep the legacy of Victorian showmanship alive and thriving,
ensuring that the next generation inherits a strong, vibrant industry.
On behalf of the Executive Committee, I wish you all a very Merry Christmas
and a prosperous New Year. May this festive season bring joy, rest, and
rejuvenation to you and your loved ones.
Safe travels,
Elwin Bell Jnr.
