Hello to all fellow showmen, friends and readers,
Well, it’s hard to believe there are just a few days left in 2023! This year has certainly been kinder than the past few, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the New Year brings!
From my experience, almost all Agricultural Shows
have been well received and well supported. Although we’ve experienced some continued challenges, overall 2023 has been
a good year.
From most reports, showmen have been busy; lots of Christmas events and we now prepare for the summer carnivals across Australia.
I’d like to take this opportunity to thank our Executive Committee for their diligence and commitment and our loyal delegates and members who work tirelessly to continually support our organisation.
A big thank you to Marjorie Chant, Eileen McClure, Justine Sinclair and Melanie McClure! There has been a significant increase in workload, not just with the delivery of the SASW program, but all guild member matters. There are greater demands on the office with many local councils requiring documentation well in advance from the Show dates along with WorkSafe requiring prior knowledge of amusement device and operators at all the major Show. We’ll be working on some new systems to assist with these requirements in 2024.
The Victorian Showmen’s Annual General Meeting of Members was held last Tuesday, 12th of December and I am delighted to be elected your President once again, along with Secretary Eileen McClure, Treasurer Terry Moon, and Trustee Marjorie Chant. I would also like to congratulate the newly elected office bearers, with a few new faces around the board table in 2024,
which is great!
A warm welcome our 14 new Members; Gage Baker, Walker Baker, Zara Blades, John Castle, Cruz Chant, Sam Evans, Gianni Godfrey, Brock Mulhall, Jacob Quay, Presley Freeman-Quay, Jaye Short, Shelby Schein, Bernard Young IV and Anthony Zacchini.
Congratulations to you all and a welcome to the Victorian Showmen’s Guild.
Eric Greenhalgh, Gary Johnson, Des Wittingslow Jnr., Pauline Baker and John Nocen were all recognised as 50 year members and Lewis Osborne, Leonie Osborne, Peter Withall, Alan Woodall, Tai Gilmore, Robert Brown Snr, Colin Leighton and Patricia Davis were granted Honorary Membership.
I’d like to wish you all a safe, happy and healthy festive season and a prosperous New Year for all!
