The spring run of shows and crazy capitals
are behind us once again and it’s hard to keep
positive about the outcomes as the weather
systems we have endured have been very unkind
to say the least, with rain and wind present at
nearly every show; testing us to our limits along
with the general cost of living and no relief in interest rates to the general
population, making it difficult to earn a living.
The patrons attending the shows are coming later and leaving earlier looking
for the bargain deal of multiple games or rides at a better rate for the family.
Mount Gambier Show was well attended by South Australian and eastern
state guild members, with a big line up of quality attractions presented.
The crowd that attended was up in numbers from previous years - so less
equipment doesn’t help build a bigger show.
Then of course the rain and wind prevailed for the main Saturday to make the
earn difficult.
One good thing at Mount Gambier was being able to catch up with the living
legend Mr. Jim Marshall and his beautiful wife Janelle for a night out with my
mother Coralie and my wife Debbie, for a meal and evening of reminiscing at
the steak barn restaurant, until they almost asked us to leave, as we were the
last ones in the restaurant and the staff were cleaning up around us.
We now have corporate hires, which are dwindling in numbers, until the lead
up to our Christmas Carnivals where we get to set up and not keep moving for
a few weeks. So, on that note I wish everyone a merry Christmas and a happy
New Year, with safe prosperous trading.
Best Regards,
Daryl. C. Girdler
