Dear Sarah:
Your Medicare evaluation is enclosed. Please check the information on the client data sheet on
page 5 to make sure it is correct. In most cases, the costs shown in your evaluation are
estimates for the last three months of the 2020 plan year – except for the estimates of Medigap
premiums on pages 6-7, which are annual amounts. Also, your Part B premiums are assumed to
be the standard premiums ($144.60 a month), but higher income people may pay more in both
Part B and Part D premiums.
If you have not already done so, you can enroll in Part A and Part B by contacting Social Security
at (800) 772-1213 and letting the representative know you want to enroll effective October 1.
You should receive your Medicare card in the mail within two or three weeks.
Your supplemental coverage options
After enrolling in Parts A&B, your next step is to choose your supplemental coverage and have
it in place by October 1. When you enroll in your supplemental coverage, you will also be
enrolling in Part D. If you choose a Medicare Advantage plan, for instance, it will include your
Part D coverage as part of its overall benefit package. If you get a Medigap policy, you will also
need to enroll in a Part D stand-alone plan.
In your questionnaire you indicated that you would like to see comparisons of both types of
coverage – 1) Advantage plans and 2) Medigap policies combined with Medicare prescription
drug plans (also called stand-alone drug plans). Once you have decided which coverage you
want, you can take these steps to enroll in the plan(s) that you’ve chosen:
If you decide to enroll in one of the Advantage plans compared in your
evaluation, you should first verify with your doctors’ offices that they are in the
plan’s network. Next you can call the plan’s toll-free number shown on pages 2-3
of the evaluation. Make sure that the person you speak with understands that
you want your coverage to begin on October 1 and specify the exact name of the
plan you want to enroll in.
If you decide to get a Medigap policy and a Part D stand-alone plan, you should
first decide which Medigap plan you want – Medigap Plan G or Medigap Plan N
