Dear Ms. Yacoe:
Your Medicare evaluation is enclosed. Please check the information on the client data sheet on
page 5 to make sure it is correct. The costs shown in your evaluation are estimates for the
entire 2020 plan year, but because Medicare has not yet announced the Part B premiums and
cost-sharing amounts for 2020, in some cases I’ve used the 2019 amounts.
Also, because you will be enrolled in Medicare for the last two months of this year, in the
sections below I’ve estimated your costs for the remainder of 2019.
Your questionnaire indicates that you have already enrolled in Part A, and in the evaluation it is
assumed that you also have Part B with an effective date of 11-1-19 (if not, you can call Social
Security at 800-772-1213 to enroll in Part B).
As you may know, Medicare’s annual open enrollment period begins on October 15 and
concludes on December 7. These dates do not apply to you because you are in your initial
enrollment period (which in your case goes through February of 2020). So you can enroll in your
supplemental coverage before October 15 and after December 7 (but no later than the end of
February). You can also switch plans during this period, as mentioned below.
Your supplemental coverage options
Your next step is to choose your supplemental coverage and have it in place by November 1.
When you enroll in your supplemental coverage, it will include your Part D benefits. If you
choose a Medicare Advantage plan, for instance, it will include your Part D coverage as part of
the overall benefit package. And if you get a Medigap policy, you will need to enroll in a Part D
stand-alone plan.
After you’ve reviewed the evaluation and decided on the type of coverage that you want, you
can follow these steps to enroll the plan(s) that you’ve chosen:
