Quiet and pleasant in manner he was a man of great determination, full of energy and acting with resource and swift decision in emergencies.
A soldier of the best type, he found in time, his true profession after trying others less suited to his adventurous and active disposition.
Leslie Cowper Palmer – 1905 to 1908
2nd Lieut. L. C. Palmer, Suffolk Regt. was killed in action in France on Sept 26th 1917. He was 26 years of age and unmarried and had already given promise of a successful future.
When the war broke out he gave up his appointment under the Land Valuation Scheme which he had held at Cambridge for nearly four years and enlisted as a Trooper in the Suffolk Yeomanry.
After a year or so in the ranks he trained with an Officer Cadet Battalion at Trinity College, Oxford and was Gazetted 2nd Lieut in the Suffolk Regt. In March last.
At School he held 1st XI Football colours playing in the 1907-1908 team. He was a hard working full back and a good kick.
His old friends deplore the loss of one for whom they had the highest respect and esteem.
