The Boss of the Year award is one of the most meaningful ones the Helena Chamber gives out. It is the biggest recognition of a boss’s work to make their business an employer of choice. Having your employees and peers recognize your efforts to show appreciation and support to them is simply the best award ever.
This year, the Chamber received many nominations for some very impressive bosses. However,
the nomination package for
this year’s winner was the most impressive. Along with MANY staff recommendations, we also received nomination support letters from business partners and area organizations.
The 2019 Boss of the Year,
Dick Anderson of Dick Anderson Construction, founded his company in 1975 and has grown from a very small, private client company to a very large corporation that handles multi-million-dollar projects. A Montana (AND Helena) based business, they have offices in Great Falls, Bozeman, Billings, Missoula, Sheridan, WY, and Redmond, OR.
With an average of 380 staff members, (85 of those in Helena), it truly is an honor to be nominated by your staff for this award.
Here are some of the highlights of the nomination letters for Dick:
“The values, ethics and sincere care that Dick provides to his employees is second to none. His dedication to ensuring that each and every employee is valued and has opportunity to improve themselves personally and professionally is admirable”.
“Dick has done so many things to benefit his employees. He, along with other contractors in the MCA implemented a health insurance and retirement program for the benefit of employees. It was an expensive venture but in Dick’s words “we have to give them these benefits - because most won’t get them on their own”.
Dick is a visionary. He has been and continues to be a developer and investor in many businesses in
Helena and around the state. This not only provides construction jobs for Dick Anderson Construction and subcontractors, but jobs for hundreds of people once the businesses are operational.
“I’m happy to be working for Dick Anderson because I know he has my back. I will give my all to Dick Anderson Construction because
of that!”
“Dick is truly such a genuine person with such a big heart and soul.”
“When I look around at employees that have been with Dick Anderson Construction for 10, 15, 20, 35 years – that definitely says something about the culture Dick has built within the company.”
“We construct projects every day that are engineering nightmares and at the end – he asks us to build it correct, even if it costs a little bit more to show the dignity for the Dick Anderson Construction logo.”
“What sets Dick apart from most bosses is that he seems to want the employees to use their own unique talents and abilities to
hep the company be successful instead of just assigning tasks and job descriptions.”
“The support this man and his company have shown my family is humbling – through all of my deployments and military obligations – it gives me great comfort knowing Dick himself would assist my wife and girls if necessary when I’m out of the country.”
“I have seen Dick help people get through illness, divorce, death of a loved one, legal issues or even their battles with addiction. He also celebrates their life celebration events.”
Within the Company, Dick created a state of Montana accredited
Apprenticeship program. It helps the employees advance their skills, move up in the company and increase their pay.”
“At a young leaders meeting at MCA, Dick’s keynote speech stuck with me when he said something like “we are all busy but no matter how busy you are, you can always find time to volunteer for your community. It is important to
be involved and give back to the community you live in.”
“Dick truly believes that his best investment is in his people.”
Great testimonials to an obviously great boss! Dick and Dick Anderson Construction are no strangers to receiving awards for excellence - They were named to the prestigious Engineering News Record Top 400 Contractors list for 2016, 2017 & 2018. Dick is also a recipient of the Helena Chamber’s 2007 Business Person of the Year.
Clients. Community. Colleagues. That’s what this company is all about. They are TEAM driven and strive to always be part of the solution! ■
