  Fabulous Firsts gives every incoming first grader an
award-winning, hardcover age appropriate book of his
or her own (and to school libraries and the Lewis & Clark
Public Library) and includes reading events at every elementary
school.
Trading Places fosters understand- ing and collaboration by linking
community and school leaders for partnership building and problem solving
Harrison Writing Awards
focus on the importance of
writing skills and recognize outstanding young writers
with cash awards.
Pen & Ink Magazine is a student produced publication, featuring
the creative work of student writers and artists. The Foundation
also organizes a launch event to showcase student art and at which
students read their original works for the community.
New Educator Welcome supports new educators and their teaching
mentors.
Board of Trustees Appreciation Luncheon
thanks our hard working school Trustees.
Special Programs HEF is sometimes able to fund special projects, presentations and events for schools and community that are initiated by educators and administrators. Last year, HEF provided Specialists Backpacks to all K-5th graders for music and PE classes; organized volunteers to send hand-written thank you letters to all district employees; hosted three virtual Issues Institutes featuring former Ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, Jono Drake and Dr. Chris McKay of NASA and Capital High School science teacher Sarah Urban; and launched Lights On, Helena! to show support for front-line workers.
