Homemade Suet for the Birds
1 cup Vegetable Shortening (like Crisco) 1 cup Crunchy Peanut Butter
(I had Creamy and added chopped nuts)
1 1⁄2 cup Oat Meal (I added leftover plain oat cereal crushed) 1⁄2 cup Corn Meal
1⁄4 cup all-purpose our
1⁄2 cup raisins
1 cup Bird Seed (like wild bird, sun ower, and niger)
1 Tbls Sugar
1⁄2 tsp of Cayenne Pepper (if you want to keep the squirrels away. It won’t bother the birds, but squirrels don’t like it.)
Mix up and add more oat meal, corn meal or bird seed if to sticky, or more shortening or peanut butter if too dry.
I spooned into a ziplock bag and since I didn’t have a plastic store-bought suet container I used a similar shaped to-go container to form the shape, then froze to make it solid, then inserted into a suet cage, and watched as the birds enjoy it.
