Our Beacon of Hope
At the Town Council meeting on March 17, Council voted unanimously on a special motion to light The Star atop The Rock as a symbol of hope during the pandemic, and as a reminder that Castle Rock is a strong and united community that will persevere.
The 40-foot star atop Castle Rock’s iconic Rock was origi- nally constructed in 1936, during the Great Depression, as a symbol of hope that could be seen for miles around.
The Star was lit by Castle Rock Fire and Rescue re ghters and a long-time volunteer, also known as The Keepers of the Star. The Star is typically lit each year from the Saturday before Thanksgiving through the National Western Stock Show. Outside the holiday season, the Star has been lit a just handful of times for special occasions. Town Council consent is required to light The Star at times other than the holiday season.
