It never ceases to amaze me. The passage of time, we are entering a new decade. As investors, what are we to expect in 2020 and the coming decade?
A Look Ahead - 2020

we have experienced in our markets since 2010, has been the fact that
markets were unusually quiet in terms of volatility. While there were pullbacks and corrections over the period, there were fewer than normal. The market witnessed some of the quietest trading in decades. The 2010s have been one of the highest returning and lowest risk decades in the last 100 years.
While the recovery from the nancial crisis, which took major indexes to 12-year lows, was a primary driver behind the gains since 2010, stocks have also bene tted from an unusually accommodative monetary-policy environment. The Federal Reserve pushed interest rates to historic lows and instituted a massive bond-buying program, which further suppressed rates and pushed investors into stocks.
Looking forward, investors targeting a given level of return in well-diversi ed portfolios will need to evaluate their allocation to riskier assets such as equities. Equally, investors targeting a given level of risk or acceptable loss may need to accept lower returns as a necessary price of safety. To balance risk with potential long-term opportunity, investors will need to review, monitor and potentially update their nancial plan. Each must think carefully about how much to devote to short-term needs while setting aside a su cient amount to invest for the longer term. An updated focus on liquidity, longevity and legacy can help investors plan to achieve their nancial objectives, reduce their anxiety about short-term risks, and enable them to take advantage of longer-term opportunities.
Please accept my wishes for a wonderful and safe decade ahead! Contact me if you’d like to meet for co ee and chat.
