Romancing History
Virtual via Zoom June 22, 2021 7:00 - 8:00 PM For Adults
From Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander
to Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton series, historical romance novels are exploding in popularity and in media adaptations. Despite the sometimes harsh realities
of the historical settings, romance novels present worlds of dukes and lords, glamorous fashion, and elegance. These novels revise and reshape history to satisfy our romantic desires while allowing us to ignore cultural and social standards we would find distasteful. Join romance and media scholar Bridget Kies as she examines the allure of historical romance across time and space. Registration recommended.

Animals have been the inspiration
for stories, myths, and legends since the dawn of time. Learn about their amazing features by exploring how they move, see, and evade predators with defenses like powerful electricity, toxic venom, and gooey slime. We’ll test some reaction times to see if anyone can outrun a cheetah, and then explore how mystical beasts may have been inspired by ancient animal ancestors in this fun-filled event about our animal friends and foes. This program has 30 activity packets that will be available for pick up to registrants a week before the program. Registration required.
