AIRFLOW MANAGEMENT FOR CLEANROOM FACILITIES
KISHOR KHANKARI Distinguished Lecturer, PhD, ASHRAE Fellow
Clean spaces are developed for a variety of applications including healthcare,
aerospace, microelectronics, pharmaceutical, food and beverages. The main goal
of cleanroom application is to maintain high level of cleanliness in the spaces to
minimize any cross contamination. Air is the primary carrier of heat, moisture,
and contaminants in cleanroom facilities. The flow path of supply air plays an
important role in determining the air velocities, air temperatures, particle
concentration, and flow path of airborne particles. These factors in turn determine
the level of cleanliness and distribution of contaminants in the space. This
presentation will first cover basics of cleanroom classifications, andPsRouErcPesAoRf EDNESS FOR BUILDING AIR CONDITIONING contaminants, and then, will focus on the importance of HVAC configuration on
airflow distribution and resulting flow path of airborne particles in cleanroom that affect the contaminant removal effectives. In addition, this presentation will also cover role of Air Changes per Hour, demand control ventilation, cleanroom airlocks, and dynamics of laminar diffusers in cleanrooms.
Covid-19, pandemic spread due to the virus SARS-CoV-2, is a challenge of epic dimensions posing in our daily life, worst known in the recent history. The whole society need to contribute towards the efforts to control the spread within manageable level. As it is sufficiently likely to be air borne and most spreads are traced to be happening in indoor environment, building engineers and architects have a role to play, mainly to inspect the likely contributing factors and addressing them in commercial buildings. ASHRAE as a leading professional body in the HVAC field in the world and the ASHRAE Malaysia Chapter, recognize their own responsibility. To help manage the specific situations of shut-downs and intermittent operations of businesses, ASHRAE has come up with a set of guidelines. This short training is an effort to explain those guidelines and recommendations. It addresses specific questions such as:

HUMIDITY CONTROL
WITH AND WITHOUT REHEAT
21st October 2020 7:00 – 9:00pm
ZOOM
Thomas H. Durkin Distinguished Lecturer, P.E., LEED AP, ASHRAE Fellow
Drkin approach is that most applications do not need for designers to control humidity, rather just make sure it doen get out of control. Humidity control can be active or passive, but it should never be ignored. This talk will explain low cost but highly effective solutions that work in all climate zones.
