Fourthly, stories are very often emotionally entertaining which creates additional bonding between story teller and audience by nature of the shared emotional experience the story creates.
Fifthly, personal stories act as arms length metaphors – the story is about the story teller and what they’ve learned about life; they are not about the audience. BUT .. the audience accepts the information, because it is not about them, they entertain the ideas and then project their own situation onto the story. You could say, they get it by osmosis.
Sixthly, stories can help people understand complex ideas that are difficult to understand intellectually.
