THE POWER OF CREATIVE IMAGINATION 53
WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO CHANGE WHO WE ARE
Changes to the Self Image are made principally through taking action. As Maxwell Maltz says, positive doing not just positive thinking.
Because of our marvelous minds, we can use our imagination as a training ground for developing new skills and shaping new attitudes.
We can learn from experience, but not solely physical world experience. By developing our imagination and having the discipline to practice, we can also develop, learn and grow from Mental Movie Experience or what Maxwell Maltz called Synthetic Experience.
As we have seen in other chapters, this is because
THE MIND CANNOT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WHAT IS REAL, AND WHAT IS VIVIDLY IMAGINED.
In an extract from an article in Psychology Today:
.. research has revealed that mental practices are almost as effective as true physical practice and that doing both is more effective than either alone.
We can use our marvelous minds to design our life, thinking in advance of all the things we want to achieve.
Then we can use our minds to think about who we need to become or want to become to achieve our goals.
Then we can set about using our minds to start developing the skills, knowledge and experience necessary to become that person.
For someone living a rich, full and rewarding life, these steps are continually iterative.
