759 culture; it is the flowering of life, the fruitage of the soul. It is
760 precious as wisdom, more to be desired than gold - yea, than
761 even fine gold. How insignificant mere money-seeking looks
762 in comparison with a serene life - a life that dwells in the
763 ocean of Truth, beneath the waves, beyond the reach of
764 tempests, in the Eternal Calm!
765 How many people we know who sour their lives, who ruin all
766 that is sweet and beautiful by explosive tempers, who destroy
767 their poise of character, and make bad blood! It is a question
768 whether the great majority of people do not ruin their lives
769 and mar their happiness by lack of self-control. How few
770 people we meet in life who are well-balanced, who have that
771 exquisite poise which is characteristic of the finished
772 character!
773 Yes, humanity surges with uncontrolled passion, is
774 tumultuous with ungoverned grief, is blown about by anxiety
775 and doubt. Only the wise man, only he whose thoughts are
