272 Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results;

274 This is but saying that nothing can come from corn but corn,
275 nothing from nettles but nettles. Men understand this law in
276 the natural world, and work with it; but few understand it in
277 the mental and moral world (though its operation there is just
278 as simple and undeviating), and they, therefore, do not
279 cooperate with it.
280 Suffering is always the effect of wrong thought in some
281 direction. It is an indication that the individual is out of
282 harmony with himself, with the Law of his being. The sole
283 and supreme use of suffering is to purify, to burn out all that
284 is useless and impure. Suffering ceases for him who is pure.
285 There could be not object in burning gold after the dross had
286 been removed, and a perfectly pure and enlightened being
287 could not suffer.
288 The circumstances which a man encounters with suffering
289 are the result of his own mental inharmony. The
