266 which cannot give good for evil, evil for good. Possessed of
267 such knowledge, he will then know, looking back upon his
268 past ignorance and blindness, that his life is, and always was,
269 justly ordered, and that all his past experiences, good and
270 bad, were the equitable outworking of his evolving, yet
271 unevolved self.
272 Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results;
273 bad thoughts and actions can never produce good results.
274 This is but saying that nothing can come from corn but corn,
275 nothing from nettles but nettles. Men understand this law in
276 the natural world, and work with it; but few understand it in
277 the mental and moral world (though its operation there is just
278 as simple and undeviating), and they, therefore, do not
279 cooperate with it.
280 Suffering is always the effect of wrong thought in some
281 direction. It is an indication that the individual is out of
282 harmony with himself, with the Law of his being. The sole
