THE POWER OF A POLISHED PRESENTATION
“If I went back to college again, I'd concentrate on two areas: learning to write and to speak before an audience. Nothing in life is more important than the ability to communicate effectively.” – Gerald R. Ford
John Maxwell said that if anyone were to ask him what the one thing they could do to move forward in almost any area of their life was, he would tell them to learn to communicate and to become a better speaker because it will do more for their business, their career and themselves than any other skill they can develop.
Developing the ability to stand up and speak in front of other people, to look calm and composed like you belong, and to be able to share a message of value at the same time, is something that most people can’t do and think they are not able to do. The fact is, they could if they wanted to. They just need to learn how.
As Ralph Waldo Emerson famously said, “All great speakers were bad speakers at first.” John often says that no one is ever good at anything the first time.
Becoming a better speaker is something everyone can do and something that everyone should do. If you could stand up and speak convincingly every now and again and be seen like a leader within your organisation, do you think that would help you stand out?
