  Reindeer Games
  by Dawn Miceli
A parade of reindeer will make its way to the Linear Trail this holiday season for passers-by to enjoy as their stroll the pathway.
The Reindeer Games Holiday Parade, host- ed by Southington Community Cultural Arts (SoCCA), is the latest addition to the lighting and decorating of a portion of the Farmington Canal Linear Trail during the winter months.
Twenty-five handcrafted reindeer, each of whom are more than 5-feet-tall, will be dis- played along the trail between Factory Square on Lower Center Street and Zingarella Pizzeria in Plantsville. Each reindeer will be painted and decorated in a unique manner by local artists who volunteered their time and talent to take part in the initiative.

Organizer and SoCCA Chair Dawn Miceli has been involved with lighting and decorating the Linear Trail during the holiday season for the past several years, originally as one of the founders of the annual White Christmas in the Community event. During the 2020 holiday sea- son, Miceli worked with the town’s Public Works Department and volunteers Paul Chaplinsky, Mike Fasulo, Joe Miceli, Bob Tonon, and Dave Zoni to decorate the trail for an extended pe- riod of time. In addition to some new offerings, the trail featured the specially made lighted or- nament structures that came about during the White Christmas events.
This year, the 25 painted reindeer will be added to the overall display. Organizers expect to kick off the Reindeer Games Holiday Parade in conjunction with Plantsville’s Christmas in the Village event at the beginning of December. The display will then remain on the Linear Trail through January 15, 2022.
