 OUR PROGRAMS
ARTS:LIVE
The Song Room’s digital arts education platform ARTS:LIVE continued to be a lifeline for teachers in
2021 as they moved in and out of different learning environments, and looked for creative ways to engage their students. Traffic to ARTS:LIVE’s remote learning packs peaked during school closures in Victoria and NSW, growing registration by 15% in 2021.
This year our team were busy developing two new ARTS:LIVE resources to be launched in early 2022.
The first project was led by Song Room Noongar Teaching Artists and involved a video shoot, education design, community involvement and enormous collaboration
to bring Deadly Arts to ARTS:LIVE. The collection was developed to support teachers to explore and strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Histories and Cultures through creative arts learning experiences that lift up contemporary First Nations voices.
The new online series includes five videos, five audio tracks and lesson plans to create 63 hours of learning content in traditional and contemporary First Nations arts
and cultural practices. The resources encourage teachers around the country to bring First Nations learning into their classroom through culturally responsive teaching. This important project was made possible through support from Lotterywest.
The videos were filmed in Perth (Mooro) on Noongar Country with our talented Teaching Artists and the school communities at Coolbellup Community School, Brookman Primary School, Medina Primary School and Neerigen Brook Primary School.
Other works in development include a new professional learning collection developed as part of the Music in Schools – DUET: Teacher Mentoring Program (DUET),
a collaboration between The Song Room and Victorian Department of Education and Training. The collection is designed to help teachers set-up their music classroom, plan lessons, and deliver the music curriculum with confidence. It includes organising tips, examples of how instrument resources can be differentiated across the curriculum, and lessons to stimulate play, inquiry and social and emotional skills.
The new resources will be available in 2022.
