    THE KNOCKDOWN
The booze has got me down again, but no way am I done!
Next time I’ll be more careful, as the referee counts ONE.
The A.A.’s said “surrender” should be the path for you.
But you know my case is different, and the man is saying TWO.
To admit that you are powerless, should be the course for thee.
Accept a Higher Power? Yuk! After all, we are only now at THREE
I’ll pull myself up by the ropes and get off this goddamn floor!
Willpower is the answer! As the man in stripes calls FOUR
You know I have been fighting this, as long as I’ve been alive.
Perhaps there is another way – as I hear the number FIVE
Time after time that booze, has put me in a fix. I’ll try an A.A. meeting, and I think there is one at SIX
You know these folks seem very nice, a happy bunch of brethren.
They are reaching out to take my hand – and I’m OK that we’re at SEVEN
I admit that doing things my way, has not turned out so great.
In fact, it got me lying here behind ball number EIGHT
I’ll ask guidance from another for the path that should be mine.
And works Steps that aren’t that scary, til we get to number NINE
I will stop fighting and embrace A.A. and as it happens when
I’ll just stay down with all my friends, as the referee counts TEN
