Under the supervision of Artistic Director, Li Cunxin and Academy Director, Christian Tátchev, we offer industry- focused training programs for gifted students from 10 years of age through to career employment. Queensland Ballet’s acclaimed faculty fosters technical and artistic excellence, while providing unique professional performance alongside
the Company.
COURSES
Jette Parker Young Artist Program
An apprenticeship program which fosters the talents of gifted young dancers at the start of their professional careers. Pre-Professional Program
Full-time final year training program which provides students with the preparation and training they require before joining a professional ballet company.
Senior Program
Professional ballet and contemporary dance training for advanced students, delivered simultaneously with senior academic schooling.
Associate Programs
Designed to supplement the work of community dance teachers and offer students, between the ages of 10 and 15, the chance to work more closely with Queensland’s State ballet Company.
William Cheung [Queensland Ballet]
Main subjects: Classical ballet, pointe, male technique, pas de deux, repertoire, character dance, contemporary dance, body conditioning, live performance. Subjects vary depending on the program. Practical dance classes per week: Pre-Professional Program:
37 hours per week.
Senior Program: 25+ hours per week. Associate Programs: QB Academy Associates up to 9.5 hrs per week and Guest Associates 4 x 3-5 day invitational visits per year.
Contact hours per day: Pre-Professional Program: approx. 7.5hrs daily training and an additional 2hrs on Saturdays.
Senior Program: approx. 4hrs dance training and 3.5hrs academic classes each weekday, plus 4.5hrs dance training on Saturdays. Associate Programs: QB Academy Associates up to 9 hours per week dance training. Guest Associates: 4 x 3-5 day invitational visits per year. Pre-requisites/entry requirements: Entry into all Queensland Ballet Academy programs is by audition or invitation.
Main teachers: Teaching staff across the various programs include Academy Director Christian Tátchev, Teachers Paul Boyd, Louise Deleur, Elena Kozhemyachenko, Veronika Sheremetieva, Zenia Tátcheva and Lisa Edwards, and Associate Teachers Wim Broeckx, Anthony Lewis, Amelia Waller and Melissa Tattam. Academy Associates - Brisbane: 31 August Guest Associates - Brisbane: 2 November Audition requirements: Please refer to www.queenslandballet.com.au/auditions Fees: Fees provided upon request. Scholarships or subsidies: Queensland Ballet has a number of scholarships available for students. Further information will be made available to successful audition applicants.
Possible career options:
Graduating QB Academy students will receive formal industry and educational qualifications to support future employment and continued studies.
Year 12 / Level 1 students will receive:
- QB Pre-Professional Certificate in Dance - Queensland Certificate of Education
- Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and/or any Vocational Education and Training Accredited courses
(e.g. Diploma in Business)
Pre-Professional Program graduates are prepared to audition for Queensland Ballet and other professional ballet and contemporary dance companies.
Artistic Directors are also invited to Queensland Ballet to review students.
