CAR CRAFT ON THE FOREFRONT OF REPAIR TECHNOLOGY
CAR CRAFT GROUP WA LAUNCHED THE
state’s first mobile ADAS calibration ser- vice last year called Advanced Automotive Calibrations. The mobile service is initially offered as a benefit to Car Craft members and is sourced from Hella Gutmann. Barry Liddle is the technical wizard behind the service. He is a first-class mechanic with a background in motorsport.
“We have a great relationship with Steve Cook at Hella Gutmann Australia and be- tween us work out how to get the best out of the new equipment,” he said.
One of the issues with any recalibration system in Australia is covering the huge range of vehicles on sale. “With additional software and equipment Advanced Cali- bration Service has near 100% coverage.”
Liddle says there is a still a need for more education - there is still an impression that it’s only the prestige vehicles that have ADAS systems when so many ‘Mum and Dad’ cars such as Hyundai, Kia and Fords are loaded with sensors, radars and cam- eras. There is still a misconception that if no fault shows up on the pre-scan that there’s no need for recalibration.
“As is the case in many countries around the world, the industry needs to maintain its education of this particular part of the repair process- the majority of vehicles workshops now need some sort of calibra- tion,” he said.
As more vehicles require this service at a national level, Car Craft says plans for ex- pansion will definitely be on the cards.
The mobile service is currently only available in WA but could be rolled out for members nationally.
