RAPIDMATCH GO SHINES THROUGH
PPG’s RapidMatch Go spectrophotometer is a precision scientific device capable of slashing colour matching time by following a few easy steps.
In basic terms, the RapidMatch Go reads colours by measuring surface light reflectance from five angles for greater accuracy. Light reflects dif- ferently from every colour and the RapidMatch Go picks up those differ- ences which can sometimes be minute. The measurement of a vehicle’s colour is then matched against the proprietary reflectance readings in the PPG database. As a result, it’s easy to see why the surface being meas- ured must be as perfect as possible. Fine scratches and minuscule sur- face imperfections disrupt the way light reflects and make it difficult to get a true reading. This means the shinier the paint surface being measured, the more accurate the reading will be. A quick clean or a rub with some cutting compound is nowhere near enough. Instead, choose two or three spots just outside the refinish area and polish them to a high gloss shine. They don’t have to be large areas so this is a good process to take advan- tage of MIRKA’s ARP-B 77mm polisher and AROP-B 77mm random orbital polisher, to keep the polish stage compact, fast and effective.
Follow the polishing steps from a coarse pad and compound through to a black pad and fine compound, making sure to clean with water- borne cleaner between each step. To further enhance the gloss (espe- cially with dark colours), apply something like Polarshine Liquid Nano Wax. Spending a few extra minutes on the correct polishing steps can easily save 30 minutes or more of colour matching time. It can actu- ally be the difference between getting a high match rating rather than a low match rating which then requires manual colour matching.

Because very dark colours can be challenging for any spectrophotometer, the RapidMatch Go features a handy ‘dark mode’. It’s automatically enabled when measuring a very dark colour which increases the illumination focused onto the surface, allowing more precise readings and a more accurate result. RapidMatch Go even works on wheels. Calibration is simple and is only required every 14 days.
Once the correct process has been followed and a reading taken, data from the RapidMatch Go is seamlessly transferred to PPG’s Paintmanger XI colour retrieval software.

RUPES D-A COARSE COMPOUND
RUPES D-A Coarse Compound is a high-performance compound designed for use with wool or foam pads, on RUPES Bigfoot Dual Action polishers (random orbital and gear-driven).
It’s a one-step, moderate to severe defect removal compound that aims to save time and costs by improved cutting performance, durable lubrication system for extended cycle and working time, and low-dusting formula to reduce clean-up.
Cut and finish wool polishing pads for rotary machines represent a leap forward in rotary pad technology and versatility. Made from genuine merino wool fibres, the improved balance between cutting performance and finish can mean a reduction in time spent swapping between pads, increasing the efficiency of each job.
Available in 150mm and 165mm diameters, the concave design allows the user to manipulate the pad into contours, which further reduces the need for swapping between different tools and pads.
These products are designed for, and work best with RUPES brand tools, compounds and pads, but can also be used with other brand machines.
