  MACHINERY MATTERS
         Facing the Covid-19 challenge
Welcome to the latest edition of Machinery Matters, brought to you by the APPMA in an exclusive partnership with PKN Packaging News.
It is fair to say that the impact of Covid-19 will not be fully understood for some time.
While most APPMA member businesses are deemed essential services because they support food production, there are still two major challenges. Firstly, transitioning working arrangements to comply with restrictions, and secondly, establishing how best to provide on-site support services across various state borders.
The challenges facing other industry sectors – including hospitality, airlines, and tourism – are far greater, and solutions there seem to be unfortunately few and far between.
APPMA is always member-focused, but during the current climate we’re working to provide support to our members and the wider industry.
Our webinar series has been really well received. You can find links for past sessions under Previous Webinars on the APPMA website; keep your eye out for upcoming webinars on the Events & Training page.
APPMA also has specific information around Covid-19 for members, so please do check out the Covid-19 information guide on our website, which is updated as more information comes to hand. And, of course, keep an eye out for announcements on our social media channels.
CONFERENCES AND EXHIBITIONS
The impact of Covid-19 on events, conferences, and exhibitions is an evolving challenge. Interpack, the first and largest of all the exhibitions showcasing worldwide innovation and developments within our industry, is now postponed until late February 2021. Meanwhile, ProPak Asia 2020 has been more aggressive with its re- scheduling, aiming for October this year.
Back on Australian soil, the partnership between the APPMA and HORT Connections, the peak industry body for Australia’s vegetable and potato industries, has had to be delayed until June 2021.
Preparations for the AUSPACK 2021 and Packaging and Processing Week events – including the Business and Industry Conference and the APPMA Awards of Excellence – are well underway. We are looking forward to being able to re-engage at a face-to-face event in Sydney, with May 2021 looking to provide a great springboard for companies across our industry.
As with the bushfires, our hearts go out to all the families who have been affected in various ways by Covid-19.
Stay safe.
