SMC’s new vacuum manifold is Fieldbus-ready
SMC Corporation’s new
ZKJ vacuum manifold with ejector system is PROFINET- enabled, which the company says ensures remote
control and monitoring of manufacturing processes.
Other features include valve protection functionality, IP65 dust-tight/water-jet- proof rating, and the ability to control up
to 16 ejectors with a single manifold. It also comes with energy saving components, and reduces air consumption
by 90 per cent.
“PROFINET communication
allows remote vacuum pressure operation. Here, customers
can monitor the value of individual ejectors, the energy- saving function and even set suction verifications,” said Rodney Ryan, state manager
at SMC Corporation.
“These enhanced functions
allow for easy set-up and access to valuable data. Furthermore, PROFINET’s fast start-up function also makes it possible for an IO device to go from power on to cyclic data exchange in 0.5 seconds or less.”
Syntegon offers certified CO2 assessment
Syntegon, and its local partner Nupac Industries,
is offering pharmaceutical and food industry companies full transparency on the carbon footprint of all Syntegon machines, with a software- based approach certified by TUV Rheinland.
The calculation, which was developed by Syntegon, covers parameters such as electricity, compressed air, media and packaging materials. Both packaging and processing equipment can be examined with this flexible methodology.
It relates the defined parameters to the individual CO2 emissions, identifying consumption in a holistic and customer-specific manner.
“Our analysis covers the machines’ lifecycle, from manufacture and transport use. The latter accounts for around two thirds of the entire equipment lifecycle,” explained Steffen Carbon, responsible for eco-friendly product design at Syntegon.
“With the collected data, we effectively support customers in improving their machines and processes, in terms of sustainable production and cost reduction.”
Syntegon developed the methodology in 2021, also with its own sustainability goals in mind.
By 2025, the company wants to reduce the consumption of particularly energy-intensive equipment by 25 per cent – and achieve a consumption that is below industry standards for around 80 per cent of the equipment in its own portfolio.
Consumption plays a central role across the entire lifecycle of a machine – more than two thirds of the CO2 footprint is generated in the operational phase.
The newly developed calculation is part of the so-called Life Cycle Assessment, an evaluation of machine data across the entire lifecycle.
For data collection and analysis, Syntegon relies on tested software from the Institute for Environmental Informatics in Hamburg, and a comprehensive database from the Zurich-based non-profit organisation Ecoinvent.
Following the pilot phase and certification, the Life Cycle Assessment is, however, still in an early stage. Syntegon says it intends to expand its service portfolio to provide customers with information on how to reduce emissions and support them in their CO2 reporting.
Nord expands LogiDrive system solution
Nord Drivesystems has expanded its established LogiDrive concept with new markets and products to give additional applications access to the benefits of standardised, industry-optimised geared motor versions.
With the new LogiDrive product
family, the Nord offers a wide portfolio
of matched drive solutions, which it says meet many different requirements and purposes – be it energy efficiency, version reduction, cost-effectiveness or flexibility.
LogiDrive is an energy-efficient, service-friendly and standardised modular system, and depending on the industry and objective, different Nord products can be combined into one drive solution,
which is tailored to the respective industry standards and application requirements.
The new extended LogiDrive solution is intended for conveyor applications in the fields of post and parcel, airport and warehouse, and comprises
one advanced version with IE5+ synchronous motor technology, and
a basic version with IE3 asynchronous motors.
While the LogiDrive advanced
drives address issues such as energy efficiency, version reduction and total cost of ownership, the company said the basic LogiDrive’s main focus is on cost efficiency.
Nord says all LogiDrive systems are
efficient and extremely easy to maintain and install thanks to plug-and-play technology.
The system has a modular design, so all components of the drive technology can be individually serviced. This minimises maintenance and repair costs.
