Welcome to Print21
Print has been through a punishing 12 months, no doubt about that, but it seems there is light at the end of the tunnel.
While some parts of the industry are still doing it tough – newspapers being the prime examples – others are working
overtime to keep up with demand. And no doubt print still has a major role to play in communication.
Retailers are working harder than ever to attract customers, with print a major part of the experience, whether a promo catalogue or instore experience. Outdoor graphics are everywhere. Personalised print achieves a cut-through that digital can only dream of.
This issue of Print21, like all the issues we are proud to produce, comes full of features on opportunities in print, with a focus on labels and flexibles. All projections are that both will achieve consistent growth over the next few years, even with the desire for eco-friendly packaging. Digital and hybrid print solutions are opening up the market to printers of all kinds.
Innovation has always taken print forward, and developments like the Alumma from Avon Graphics, that has so enhanced the front cover of this issue, are part of the evolution of print. The feature on the story of Alumma provides real insight into a new opportunity.
Opportunity is also the keyword in the wide format section of this month’s issue, with a look at new developments in large size 3D, and in using your wide format printer to cash in on the boom in personalised wall coverings.
Continuing with the opportunity theme, marketing guru Malcolm Auld spells out how printers can benefit from the Covid-inspired uptake of QR codes.
Running a print business is a demanding role, the level
of responsibility can weigh heavily. I would encourage everyone to read Steve Gamble’s feature on the mental health Swimathon, which is inspiring.
And I hope that all are readers are inspired by this issue, as you read the stories of your peers in print, the men and women that are using their talents to make a difference.
