  Cheerpack goes recyclable
By producing the popular Cheerpack with 100 per cent polypropylene, Italian packaging giant Gualapack has made the package completely recyclable.
GGUALAPACK recently introduced Interseroh Dienstleistungs, an envi-
the Pouch5, a range of 100 per cent mono-material stand-up Cheerpack pouches, which, the company says, are completely recyclable as polypropylene (PP).
All the elements of the recy- clable stand-up pouches – cap and spout included – are made of the same material, PP, which is identi- fied for recycling within existing PP plastic waste streams.
Gualapack says its portfolio of recyclable solutions enables custom- ers to meet the goals of the EU Plastics Strategy, whereby all pack- aging placed onto the EU market by 2030 shall be either reusable, recy- clable, or compostable.
Gualapack, a member of the Sustainability Committee of FPE (Flexible Packaging Europe), has also been taking part since 2017 in CEFLEX, a consortium representing the entire value chain of flexible packaging (see breakout on page 44).
Pouch5 has obtained the widely recognised HTP Cyclos certification, with a 98 per cent recyclability score. Furthermore, Pouch5 was also certified for its recyclability by
ronmental service provider. With a score of 20 out of 20, the mono-mate- rial pouches are considered “very well-designed for recycling”.
As a mono-material, Pouch5 is designed without aluminium and is the first pre-made spouted pouch to be recyclable. At the same time, Gualapack says it offers a high oxy- gen and water vapour barrier for shelf-stable products that undergo hot-filling and pasteurisation, such as baby food and fruit compote, as well as for less demanding cold- filled or dairy applications.
Gualapack says the mono-material pouches have already been chosen by important baby food brands around the world. Jufico, a German baby-food producer, chose Pouch5, for five new variants of its Fruchtbar fruit juices.
German consumers are well- informed and sensitive to recyclabil- ity, and in Germany separate collec- tion and recycling infrastructure for flexible packaging are among the best in the world. Jufico, under the brand Fruchtbar, has captured the momentum and the needs of the

Terry Waterson, director at Auspouch, the Australian distribu- tor of the Cheerpack, said the 100 per cent recyclable versions are available in Australia.
“Gualapack has validated and commercialised the 100 per cent recyclable Cheerpack, and it is available to Australian customers,” Waterson said.
“Also, Gualapack has a plant in China, where our pouches come from, and that factory can make this 100 per cent recyclable pouch as well.” ■
