BAS VAN EST
Bas van Est is a commercial and documentary photographer from New Zealand, but is currently based in Amsterdam. In 2019, he embarked on his two biggest projects to date. The first, Everything is Temporary, premiered at Nowness in March 2020. As a co- directorship, the project provided his first taste of documentary filmmaking. The photo essay from the project also made the cover of the November 2020 issue of Huck magazine. Also in 2019, he took his new interest in filmmaking and created a project, Yusef y Ramiro, which was the first documentary short film that he had directed on his own. Storytelling through motion picture has offered a completely new perspective on his pursuit as a photographer and he is interested in exploring the interrelationship between the practice of both stills photography and filmmaking.
