 Vinpac, Orora develop lightweight bottle
In an Australian first, Endeavour Group’s wine bottling and packaging arm Vinpac International has partnered with glass packaging company Orora on developing a new lightweight 750ml sparkling bottle.

Collaborating with Orora to produce a lighter weight sparkling bottle with a combination of commer- cial and environmental benefits for our customers is really exciting,” said Vinpac International’s commercial manager James Vallance.
The lightweight bottle has been welcomed by Pinnacle Drinks, the supplier arm of Endeavour Group, which is releasing a number of brands in the lightweight sparkling bottle, including the popular Minchinbury sparkling range. The 2021 vintage has been bottled in the sustainable pack- aging is available in BWS and Dan Murphy’s stores.
By making the switch to this new lightweight bottle, Pinnacle Drinks estimates it will remove 320 tonnes of packaging from its supply chain, which equates to taking around 62 cars off the road each year. ■
 ALTHOUGH red, white and rose wine bottles have been available in light- weight options for some time, spar- kling wine is traditionally bottled in heavier glass packaging for a pre- mium feel.
The new lightweight bottle has been manufactured at Orora’s Gawler glass packaging facility in South Australia, and tested at Vinpac’s bot- tling facilities in Angaston in March.
The bottle weighs in at 580g, which is 100 grams less than a standard sparkling wine bottle, giving an approximate 15 per cent total reduc- tion in weight.
