LyondellBasell commits to Operation Clean Sweep
OPERATION Clean Sweep®, a global product stewardship initiative cre- ated by the Plastics Industry Trade Association (USA), is pushing a sim- ple, yet clear message: resin pellets should be contained, reclaimed and/ or disposed of properly.
In Australia, LyondellBasell has come out in strong support of this ini- tiative, together with Chemistry Australia and Tangaroa Blue Foundation. LyondellBasell Australia says it is encouraging the entire plas- tic packaging industry, from plastics suppliers and logistics providers, to convertors and brand owners, to make the pledge to Operation Clean Sweep®. The company says this would involve introducing recommended processes and practices to prevent pellet loss to the environment.
The fundamental principle of Operation Clean Sweep® is ‘Zero Pellet Loss’, which can be achieved by implementing good processing and pellet containment practices. Plastics industry stakeholders can visit the Operation Clean Sweep website (www.opcleansweep.org. au) for access to resources, includ- ing manuals and checklists, to
allow the business to customise its housekeeping efforts.
“There is an increasingly greater awareness of plastic pollution in the environment and rightly so,” LyondellBasell Australia says. “We believe that plastics are a valuable resource and our focus is on re-use, recovery and recycling. At the same time, LyondellBasell has a zero pel- let loss goal from our own opera- tions and is committed to Operation Clean Sweep®.” ■
