AUSPACK: Where tech and trends coincide
As we count down the days to the region’s biggest packaging and processing trade show, PKN brings you a snapshot of what’s in store on the show floor at the industry’s must-attend event of the year.
SICK SHINES LIGHT ON DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
www.sick.com/au/en
STAND B145
ON SICK’s stand at AUSPACK, visitors will be taken on a ‘Digital Transformation’ journey via the simulated replication of a small food and beverage manufacturer.
SICK will showcase an end-to-end product line approach starting at the ‘kitchen’, or processing plant, moving through primary packaging, secondary packaging, and end-of-line packaging.
Each section will provide functioning examples of solutions for qual- ity control, detection and measurement, track and trace, and safety.
As a visitor, you will be able to explore how SICK can capture data from the sensor level, provide transparency through live analytics that will allow you to monitor performance of each section, and make real- time decisions that will improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
Visitors to SICK’s stand will experience: instrumentation for machine safety, machine vision, asset monitoring, identification, smart sensing, and IO link.
Technology that will be showcased includes: flexible automation conveyor, UR robot, TT conveyor, LiveConnect and Asset Hub.
The company’s stand is suitable for all visitors to AUSPACK, includ- ing electricians and maintenance teams interested in sensors; engi- neers interested in machines and automation; production and qual- ity control staff interested in operations; and IT and business owners interested in the three pillars of the Digital Transformation journey – sensors (the data enablers), operations (transparency and efficiency with digital solutions), and machines (digital industrial automation – safe and secure).
“We are one of the world’s leading manufacturers of sensors, safety systems, machine vision, encoders and automatic identifica- tion products for industrial applications, and we’ll take people through the entire journey on our stand where you can replicate your own sce- nario and see the real life data and analytics,” the company said.
OPEN IIOT DEMO UNIT SHOWS INDUSTRY 4.0 ‘SMARTS’
 STAND openiiot.com.au G130
THE Open IIoT group is made up of Australia’s key players in the automation and manufacturing industry: SMC Corporation, Nord Drivesystems, Baluff, Beckhoff Automation, Zi-Argus and recent addition Kuka Robotics.
Together, they have used their expertise in pneumatics, drive tech- nology, sensors, automation, systems integration and robotics to cre- ate a fully operational demonstrator unit.
This demo unit showcases all the Open IIoT members’ components, working together in unison, and communicating their ‘smarts’ to an Industry 4.0 software platform. The group’s goal is to create the demo unit that demonstrates the benefits of full IIoT integration in a visually accessible way.
This is illustrated by programming the unit system to circulate var- ious boxes based on their size, colour, texture, RFID and external labelling.
The demo unit provides a high-level overview of Industry 4.0 in practice and shows how implementing IoT can provide the user with intelligence that can increase production, reduce downtime, help pre- dict trends, and allow for adaptability within the business.
Visitors to the Open IIoT stand at AUSPACK 2022 will be able to see first-hand how the collaboration of automation components can create a comprehensive IIoT end-user system, complete with a production dashboard that unlocks the power of the system data collected.
Key areas such as predictive maintenance, energy savings, hori- zontal and vertical networking, dynamic changes, and data analytics will be brought to light.
