TWO panel discussions at the AUSPACK Leaders’ Forum on 18 May will focus on sustainability, future packaging, recycling, and the circular economy – topics that con- tinue to hit home as we at PKN keep readers abreast of progress in these areas through our articles, news sto- ries and podcasts.
The sustainability section of this issue continues this path – here, we look at companies and collabora- tions, including Brightmark and Nestlé, which are striving to find new and effective ways to recycle and reuse packaging.
The importance of advanced recy- cling is a hot topic, and one which Margaret Stuart, director Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Nestlé Oceania, weighed in on recently.

THE BOTTOM LINE
42 Paul Allen draws an analogy between his golf handicap and the profit margins of a business.
Here, we look at companies striving to find new and effective ways to recycle and reuse packaging.”
Stuart, who is also a speaker at the AUSPACK Leaders’ Forum, discussed the KitKat prototype case study and revealed the importance of collaboration and contribution towards a ‘shared vision’ to close the loop on soft plastics.
As you can read in the article on page 18, the pro- cess was not entirely smooth sailing, there were
hurdles to cross and lessons to learn but as Stuart said, “We know that there is a hunger out there for pack- aging made with recycled content. We can see the packaging value chain responding, and there’s a growing interest in investing in advanced recycling.”
This, our special AUSPACK 2022 issue, is back-to-back with inspira- tional stories like these, and more. We hope you will enjoy reading every part of the magazine, and for those attending AUSPACK, don’t miss the two-day Leaders’ Forum, which as well as covering themes on sustainability and the circular econ- omy, will also feature talks on investment and collaboration, future supply chain, adapting and diversifying for commercial suc- cess, and the future workforce. ■
