Contract manufacturing and packing specialist Multipack is seeing growth in demand for packaging solutions that cater to the on-the-go market. Lindy Hughson spoke to sales director Brad Devine about how the company is helping brands big and small get their products on shelf.
Multipack taps booming sector
THE functional beverage sector is taking off, according to Multipack sales and marketing director Brad Devine, and his business is seeing an attendant growth in the demand for convenient, single-portion packaging. “This is not a new area for Multipack, but we’re definitely seeing a spike in
acuity. As covered previously by Food & Drink Business, the product has been successful since its launch by entrepreneur Steve Chapman three years ago.
Brand owner Shine+ Drink has recently decided to upgrade the lidding on its shot bottle from a plastic closure to an aluminium cap, and to this end
sector, called Rogue Beverages, with its Shojo range of targetted functional shots including a tumeric based ‘hangover cure’ that are also bottled and capped on this line.”
Another interesting functional beverage, this time a dry product packed in sachets, comes from Multipack’s client BeforeYouSpeak Coffee, founded by two young entrepreneurs Ash Bissett and Jaryd Terkelson, who decided to turn their habit of putting additives into their coffee “to get more out of it” into an actual product (see Food & Drink Business July 2019).
The result is a premium instant coffee product, with additives that improve health, wellbeing and performance. Nine months into its set-up, the company already offers nine SKUs, six of which are packed by Multipack.
Multipack packs the single-serve sachets into cartons of 30, and for this
contract, has invested in a purpose-built form-fill-seal sachet line with an integrated counting conveyor. Its smart features allow it to drop 10 sachets at a time into the secondary carton.
Devine says ongoing investment in technology to support innovation in the functional beverage space is key to the company’s growth, and notes that other projects in the Multipack pipeline indicate that functional, convenience beverages is a segment set to boom. ✷
