                 World Refrigeration Day
A global celebration for cooling champions
AUSTRALIA’S HVACR INDUSTRY WILL JOIN THEIR COUNTERPARTS AROUND THE GLOBE TO CELEBRATE WORLD REFRIGERATION DAY (WRD) ON 26 JUNE, 2021.
tions (FAIAR), International Institute of Refrig- eration (IIR), Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ISHRAE) and the Pan-African Union of Associa- tions of African Actors in Refrigeration and Air- Conditioning (U-3ARC).
The objective is to inspire students and those early on their career path to join the more than 15 million people worldwide currently employed in the refrig- eration sector, making the world a better place.
WRD organiser, Steve Gill, said partnering with these organizations enables the refrigera- tion industry to reach out globally, with particu- lar emphasis on developing countries, to expand the workforce that supports life-giving and soci- ety-dependent technologies.
“Opportunities within the industry abound for young people with a wide range of career as- pirations,” he said.
“Advanced cooling technologies provide them with a profession that improves life in their com- munities and in the world as a whole.”
Each campaign partner will target career op- portunities with webinars in the language com- mon within that network. Special emphasis will be given to sectors that are commonly less known like Cold Chain, Refrigerant Management, In- door Air-Quality, Sustainability, Heat Pumps, and Not-in-Kind Technologies. Gender equality and promoting women in cooling careers will be highlighted in this year’s campaign as well.
The schedule of webinars and topics are avail- able at www.worldrefrigerationday.org.
HEART OF MODERN LIFE
THIS IS AN international event that aims to raise awareness about the role of refrigeration and air conditioning in supporting modern life and society.
Technicians, industry groups, engineers, wholesalers, suppliers, everyone takes part in the celebrations.
This year a series of webinars focusing on the cool careers that make the world a better place are being held throughout the month of June as part of WRD celebrations.
The World Refrigeration Day secretariat has partnered with seven organizations to make stu- dents and young professionals globally aware of career opportunities in fields relying on refriger- ation technology.
It will cover food preservation, how vaccines and medicines can be shipped around the world and how our industry enables data cen- tres to function.
The webinars will examine how can climate change be stabilized while not sacrificing mod- ern convenience? Who safely manages the pro- cesses that enable air to be cooled? How can the quality of indoor air be improved, and disease transmission prevented?
These are all issues managed by our industry – cooling champions. They have careers that
make modern life possible and provide a diverse range of employment opportunities. All of these cool careers will be covered in the webinars over two weeks in June.
Organized as part of WRD’s 2021 campaign theme “Cooling Champions: Cool Careers for a Better World,” the webinars will be conducted by groups whose networks reach into developed and developing nations.
Campaign partners are United Nations Envi- ronment Program (UNEP), OzonAction, ASHRAE which is an industry with 57,000 mem- bers, European Partnership for Energy and the Environment (EPEE), Federation of Ibero-Ameri- can Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Associa-

This year’s WRD theme is cool careers for a better world.
Refrigeration is at the very heart of modern life. Some 15 million people are employed worldwide in the refrigeration sector. The total number of refrigeration, air- conditioning and heat-pump systems in operation worldwide is around five billion. Those systems provide the conditions we require for health, comfort, worker productivity, manufacturing, and essential environments for food, pharmaceuticals, and digital data.
