Apprentice proves it
is possible to teach an
old dog new tricks
A 40-YEAR OLD refrigeration and air conditioning apprentice from Brisbane has won Appren- tice of the Year at the second an- nual awards event to be hosted by TAFE Queensland.
Award winner, Troy Connors, said his win proves that it is possi- ble to teach an old dog new tricks.
“For anybody looking to change careers I am proof that you can do that,” Connors said.
“Winning this award really con-
solidates the fact that I have worked so hard to be where I am; it is very overwhelming and humbling.”
Connor thanked his employer, A Grade Air and award sponsor, MIGAS.

“It is important for industry and employers to have a platform to build relationships with apprentices and this is what our event continues to achieve.
“Since the launch of the Apprentice Awards in 2018, the event has already doubled in size.”
The 2019 nominees were selected from over 9,000 apprentices across carpentry, plumbing, electrotechnology, refrigeration and air condi- tioning, manufacturing and engineering, heavy commercial industries, light automotive, con- struction and furnishing trade areas.

nated for his exceptional skill level and his ded- ication to mastering his trade.
“Troy is just one of our award winners and nominees who will go on to become future lead- ers in their industries, helping to build a stronger and more skilled workforce,” Tucker said.
