Under Smoky Skies. “For NSW, the summer of 2020 was like no other. Day in, day out, smoke collected on the horizon creating an eery, orange glow. Over time, we grew

accustomed to life under smoky skies and our children adapted to the ‘new normal’. Shot as my, then, 5-year-old daughter played on the tyre swing as the ominous glow from with the Currowan fire illuminated the background.

Demise. Despite being the fastest land bird in Australia, this emu could not outrun the hazards of the longest stretch of road across the country. This proud iconic bird lifeless on the hard bitumen breathing only moments before. The hard reality of high-speed zones and the presence of roadkill show the ongoing impact to our native wildlife and challenges of balancing environment and industry.
