Is your equipment compatible with big data?
THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT is in the process of diverse change.
The focus of investment is now moving towards the adoption of new operational technologies within buildings and across portfolio landscapes.
These technologies are being utilised to aid property owners’ ambitions to be carbon neutral by meeting net zero targets by the year 2050.
While these goals play on the mind of many who see themselves as ‘doing their part’ for the environment, the adopted technologies also help increase building valuation by achieving certifications in NABERS, Green Star, REST to name a few.
“TEMPERZONE EQUIPMENT USE INDUSTRY STANDARD PROTOCOLS TO AVOID HIDDEN SYSTEM INTEGRATION COSTS.”
The common theme of operational technolo- gies revolves around the use of Data. It is under- stood that huge masses of data are required from all levels of equipment within a building to better understand operational performance and environmental impact.
Software platforms are now emerging which leverage data by means of ingesting and aggre- gating for analysis, while equipment suppliers are reinventing their control solutions to provide communication pathways to transport their digital data to cloud-based servers which would otherwise be stored on premise within the build- ing management system.
INTEROPERABILITY
At present data is being used to improve building operation. Using analytics, software platforms look across all equipment types and inspect how they interoperate.
Queries are then devised to identify faults, anomalies, exceptions and even opportunities to optimise performance throughout daily operation.
A good example of a basic query can determine when a central plant chiller is operating outside of business hours.
This query is only possible as the chiller provides power consumption data points which are then analysed against the building’s business hours.
Temperzone understands and recognises scenarios like these and the importance to building operation in minimising energy use.
All Temperzone equipment provides data
communication ports which use industry standard protocols. Modbus RTU and BACnet IP can be used to both monitor and control system operation.
This capability enables software platforms to integrate seamlessly with Temperzone equipment and adjust or modify control strategies.
Investing in new or replacement equipment can be a bewildering exercise, the complexities new technologies present can distract and mislead many who are attempting to align big picture initiatives which are data led.
Always ensure when selecting between software platforms or equipment suppliers the systems promote interoperability and use industry standard protocols.
With this mindset you will avoid hidden costs of system integrations and unexpected hardware costs.
