PRIMED FOR PRODUCTIVITY

AND PROTECTION
PPG’S F4949 CT PRODUCTIVE CHASSIS
primer binder has become an instant market favourite.
This new and unique solution for prim- ing blasted metal surfaces not only lets us- ers build more units per day, with reduced labour, materials and energy, it also bene- fits vehicle operators, in terms of long- term paint durability. Designed at PPG’s Clayton, Melbourne laboratories, it uses the latest technology building blocks from PPG’s global R&D group.
Instead of having to choose between a 1K or 2K primer or an epoxy primer, the next generation polymer chemistry found in F4949 CT Productive Chassis Primer Bind- er delivers the best of both worlds, says Chris Buswell, PPG Product Specialist.
“Users get all the properties they want in the one product. F4949 CT Productive Chassis Primer Binder is formulated with unique technology that provides the sought after features of an epoxy, as well as a two-pack polyurethane. With all the attributes of an epoxy primer, it lays down nicely and has excellent adhesion and an- ti-corrosion properties, but it also has the build and curing speed of a urethane type primer. It’s tintable and designed to be used with the Delfleet Evolution tinter range to create 4949 Delfleet CT produc- tive chassis primer mixed colour. It even has the option to use a special HP (high performance) thinner that cuts the bake time in half, to just 20 minutes. Four thin- ner versions are available to cater to differ- ent temperature ranges, right up to those
extreme 35°C and above days.
“What it has effectively done is reset the
industry benchmark for productivity with- out sacrificing quality. The excellent self- levelling properties of 4949 Delfleet CT Pro- ductive Chassis primer mixed colour leaves a surface finish which doesn’t require any sanding before topcoating. For those still sanding primer, just think how much la- bour time that saves. Its most productive mode is wet-on-wet and its ability to be tint- ed to a sympathetic colour to match each topcoat colour (there is a 4949 formulation to match most CT topcoat colours) brings even more advantages, over and above achieving topcoat coverage quicker and use less product. In the long term, the sym- pathetic primer colour beneath the topcoat benefits vehicle operators. Rather than stone chips, scratches, etc. standing out as typical grey or beige primer colours the un- derlying colour means these blemishes are not immediately obvious and UV protec- tion is retained,” Buswell said.
PPG has also launched another prod- uct which utilises this advanced resin technology – F4957 CT Productive Silver. It shares the same properties but comes in a silver colour so it primes the blasted metal surface and leaves an attractive silver final finish all in one visit.
This new-age primer technology now forms part of PPG’s Delfleet Evo- lution paint system which was devel- oped specifically for commercial trans- port applications.
