Finding the sustainable advantage
Avery Dennison has brought its sustainable products and solutions portfolio under one umbrella – Sustainable Advantage – giving brand owners a toolkit for advancing their own sustainability goals.
SUSTAINABILITY is unquestionably an integral part of any brand’s success today. With increased consumer awareness of how products are sourced, the materi- als and packaging used, and their recyclability, there is a growing need for brands to examine every
aspect of their products to ensure they fit sustainability ideals.
To help its customers in Asia Pacific address this need, Avery Dennison has expanded its portfolio of sustain- able products and solutions under the brand name Sustainable Advantage.
“As a leader in the labels and pack- aging industry that is an influential part of supply chains worldwide, we have a huge opportunity to help drive our industry towards a more sustain- able future through the innovative, ecologically-minded design of our products,” says Pankaj Bhardwaj, vice president of marketing at Avery Dennison Asia Pacific.
“Our portfolio makes it easier for converters and brands to find what they need to produce packaging that has less impact on the environment,” Bhardwaj says.
The Sustainable Advantage port- folio contains hundreds of solutions engineered to help brands meet their goals for enhancing packaging cir- cularity, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, minimising the con- sumption of natural resources, and much more.
While many products and solu- tions within the portfolio have been readily available, Avery Dennison believes bringing them together under one identifiable umbrella will give converters and brands a wide range of go-to options for increasing the recyclability of packaging, using materials with recycled and respon- sibly sourced content, and reducing their materials consumption.
The solutions within the range include adhesives that enable more
plastic to be recycled; water-effi- cient digital printers; labels and tags made with 100 per cent certified paper; industrial tapes to replace heavier fasteners; compostable paper packaging for shipping; digital ID technologies; and tools and services to empower companies to make not just their products more sustainable, but their operations too.
RECYCLING ENABLERS
Many products in the upgraded port- folio aim to increase yields of recycled plastic, a resource that is much needed to address global demands. One such product is the CleanFlake material, which enables easier recy- cling of PET bottles including food grade bottle-to-bottle recycling. When paired with an emulsion adhe- sive, CleanFlake also supports HDPE recycling of mono-materials. Acrylic adhesive, S692N, on film facestocks also enables the recycling and down- cycling of HDPE packages and meets or exceeds the strictest Association

of Plastics Recyclers (APR) Critical Guidance criteria.
CleanFlake solutions are now read- ily available from Avery Dennison and do not require significant lead time. They are locally manufactured, in stock, and ready for fast delivery in the quantities required.
The portfolio also includes a label that can be cleanly peeled off by hand from PET or HDPE bottles, encouraging consumers to remove it before the packaging enters the waste stream, while also making it easier for personnel working in the recy- cling industry.
RESPONSIBLY SOURCED
Avery Dennison has also been expanding its recycled labelling solutions, and earlier this year the company announced its new uncoated rDT – the first direct ther- mal paper label on the market to contain recycled content.
Certified by the Forest Stewardship Council and free of BPA, rDT mate- rial brings new life to post-consumer waste and increases sustainabil- ity benefits with no compromise on quality or performance.
Overall, Sustainable Advantage reflects Avery Dennison’s rein- forced commitment to operating more sustainably and enabling both customers and end-users to improve the sustainability of their products, businesses and lives. ■
