PROFILE | PKN 60 YEARS SPECIAL
 Schütz Australia
Schütz is the global market leader in manufacturing Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) and PE drums with a strong commitment to Australian
manufacturing.
Schütz Australia operates from three sites
across the country: Laverton North in Melbourne, North Coogee in Perth, and Yatala, south of Brisbane. Given the size of Australia, these plants are strategically located to maximise supply of bulk packaging to cus- tomers across the total marketplace. The com- pany’s newest site in Yatala opened last year, manufacturing both new Ecobulk and recondi- tioned Recobulk IBCs. Yatala is within a day’s drive to Sydney, potentially lowering both cost of transport and reducing carbon emissions. Schütz Australia continues to invest in manu- facturing with innovation that delivers value, quality and sustainability improvements for its customers.
Schütz Australia offers the broadest range of locally manufactured bulk industrial packag- ing with Ecobulk and Recobulk IBCs for dan- gerous and non-dangerous goods. It also offers a range of specialty IBCs which provide the option to fill into anti-static, EVOH barrier, and UV resistant units. Schütz has also rec- ognised the growing importance of food safe packaging, and it has recently strengthened its HACCP accreditation with the addition of Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000. FSSC Certification is considered the global standard for food grade packaging, and offers food, beverage, and pharmaceutical
customers peace of mind that sensi- tive products are fully protected when filling a Schütz Foodcert or Cleancert IBC.
Schütz also offers an extensive
range of plastic drums suitable for industrial and food production. Its
existing range of 200-litre drums
offer a tight head F1 drum, open top
SDS drum, and the recently launched
open top OC straight wall drum. The company also has its 100-litre drum
range, in a standard and EVOH bar-
rier unit. With the recent installation
of its new state of the art drum manu- facturing capability, Schütz is devel-
oping innovative drums that maximise per- formance in areas such as product stability, stack-ability and space efficiency.
Schütz Australia continues to take its responsibility to the environment seriously, by operating the Schütz Ticket Service. This is an IBC collection service available across Australia and internationally. This service has been made easier for users with the recent introduction of the Ticket Collection sticker on every Schütz IBC. This sticker introduces a new easier option to contact Schütz via a unique QR code. Customers simply scan their phone over the code and it instantly connects them to the ticket return website. The Schütz Ticket Service App is also available on iPhone or Android devices.
Every IBC that is returned to Schütz Australia enters its reconditioning process,
which cleans and repairs the cage and replaces the HDPE inner tank with a brand-new unit. The reconditioned Recobulk IBC is manufac- tured to the same high-quality standards as a new Ecobulk unit. Importantly, the used inner tank is granulated and then re-used in the pro- duction of IBC parts, thus ensuring a closed material cycle.
By returning empty IBCs to Schütz this helps to protect natural resources and saves hundreds of thousands of tonnes of green- house gases every year. Each Recobulk saves approximately 100 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions compared with a new IBC.
The company’s commitment to investing in Australia and local manufacturing is ongoing. With investment in new facilities, machinery and equipment, Schütz is entering a phase where manufacturing capabilities and innova- tion are shifting the company to a position of sustainable long-term growth. Schütz is com- mitted to a corporate and management culture that continually strengthens the company’s ability to compete and generate long-term value. Now, and in the future, Schütz continues to embrace sustainable business principles in order to be a dependable and responsible part- ner for their customers, markets and the community.
