                 INDUSTRY 4.0 & IIOT
Wyzing up automation
Setting a new benchmark for collaborative production between humans and machines, the world’s first sidebot, Wyzo, has received two international awards recognising its design aesthetic and functionality.
A commitment to changing the face of industrial automation is how Wyzo chief technology officer Christian Vouillamoz describes the sidebot.
Two recent awards – an iF design award in the Industry & Tools category and Red Dot’s Best of the Best Award for Industrial Equipment, Product Design, and Robotics – suggest Wyzo is doing just that.
The brainchild of Demaurex SA, pioneer of the Delta robot, Wyzo is represented locally by Radial Design.
Vouillamoz says, “To win the iF design award and the Best of the Best award from Red Dot is just amazing and is the result of an exceptional partnership with Sardi Strategic Design
that I am very proud of. “These awards show how
important it is to take care of the look of the machine, as well as how customers interact with it and their overall experience. It reinforces the belief that we are changing the face of industrial automation and carving a path to follow for collaborative, pick-and-place robotics.”
Wyzo is Tüv certified and already proven in the field, its advanced safety system is enabled through its state-of- the-art sensor technology, which constantly monitors the surroundings for the presence of human activity.
This means Wyzo can work safely side-by-side with humans with zero protective barriers or
performance compromises, while its compact design and high-speed operation allow it to perform up to 90 cycles per minute.
Able to fit anywhere on a production floor at less than 0.5 square metres and just 1.80 meters in height, Wyzo has been designed specifically to be no taller than a human being to make its integration seamless with operators.
Its size ensures those working alongside view Wyzo as a co-worker, while its small footprint delivers true flexibility.
It can easily be moved from one workstation to another, eliminating bottlenecks and enabling fast ROI, and is highly compatible with all regular grippers on the market, with changeover speeds of less than nine seconds.
To meet ever-changing production demands, Wyzo also offers integrated pneumatic, electric, and vacuum controls.
The B2B design expert and founder of Sardi Strategic Design, Enrique Luis Sardi says, “Both awards are truly a fantastic acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication that went into Wyzo from both sidesofthepartnership.
“Understanding the market’s need and together realising a desirable and highly functional product is always the ultimate goal. Wyzo and the complete sidebot concept are a testament to that. To achieve such an incredible balance between form, functionality and performance is something to celebrate, and no one person stands head and shoulders above the rest. Both awards truly belong to all involved.”
In awarding Wyzo the Best of the Best, Red Dot said the sidebot had an “anxiety-reducing effect” in the workplace.
“Its colour contrasts simultaneously visualise its dynamism and speed. The concept of a fenceless design combined with a proximity detection system has thus led to a new definition of this type of robot.
“Not only does it allow operators to relate to it, but it can also be flexibly adapted to changing production processes,” Red Dot said.
Wyzo will be on display at Achema (22-26 August, Frankfurt) and PackExpo (23-26 October, Chicago), or contact Radial Design to arrange a customdemonstration. ✷
