  Meet the finalists
competing for
the 2021 awards
FINALISTS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2021 HVACR LEADERSHIP AWARDS.
for Hydrochem. He just commissioned 10 cool- ing towers in Canberra with the pinpoint accu- racy that Hydrochem have come to expect from Kaleb who began his career in the defence force.
Jarred Budny is a 21-year-old, fourth year ap- prentice at AJ Baker & Sons in Perth. Jarred’s col- leagues rave about his enthusiasm and passion for this industry. Jarred has also competed in WorldSkills and has won the company’s appren- tice of the year award three times in a row. Jarred has always been technically minded and sees himself installing and commissioning super- markets in the future.
FEMALE RISING STAR
There are three finalists competing for the Fe- male Rising Star award.
Cailin Hancock is currently employed at the Maroondah Air Group and is another finalist re- nowned for her enthusiasm and helpful nature, especially when it comes to dealing with custom- ers. Cailin began her career managing spare parts at Heatcool Pty Ltd. This was a good foun- dation before she moved into sales at System Control Engineering.
Katie Hammill-Lovett was one of only four fe- males selected from 500 applicants to undertake an apprenticeship at Woolworths. This 19-year- old finalist is currently completing her appren- ticeship as a technician at the Woolworths Group in Brisbane. Katie is excelling as an ap- prentice and was recently selected as one of NextGen’s top 20 apprentices under 25.
Kasey Hall joined Airmaster almost a decade ago, it was her first job out of school. During this time she has worked hard to cement her role within the company as a rising star. Today she is showcasing her management skills as Airmas- ter’s operations and maintenance manager. Ka- sey thrives in the demanding role and plans to go even further over the next decade.

   THERE ARE 25 finalists competing for seven awards across six categories. There were plenty of entries again this year and as always, competition was fierce.
In the following pages CCN profiles finalists in each category.
Winners will be announced at CCN Live, which will be a virtual event taking place on 5 November, 2021.
RISING STAR
This dual award, sponsored by ABB, showcases upcoming talent and recognises the future champions of our industry. There are four final- ists for the Male Rising Star award.
At only 23 years of age Alex Hawkins is a well- rounded technician at Alpine Refrigeration. His colleagues claim he is no routine technician, he is at the top of his game. This may explain why he competed in WorldSkills to showcase his out- standing abilities. His employer describes him as
a credit to the industry and a worthy contender for this award.
Jeevan Shah is recognised as one of Actron Air’s rising stars. The software engineer is an in- tegral part of the new product development team and has played a leading role in the devel- opment of the company’s new Advance product range and providing new logic and functionality on Actron Air’s inverter air conditioners.
Despite the lockdown, Kaleb Crowther has been travelling around Australia with an emer- gency worker permit maintaining customer sites
